ATTEMPTS are on to establish a centre for social studies and research in memory of Comrade Jyoti Basu, a legendary leader of the CPI (M) and the democratic movement. The plan is to build a centre in Jyoti Basu Nagar (New Town, Rajarhat) which will undertake research on the communist movement and mass movements. Besides creating an archive of documents related to the life and work of Comrade Jyoti Basu, the centre will also have an auditorium, a seminar hall, a library and a guest house of limited capacity. There is the need to mobilise funds to build this centre.
Comrade Jyoti Basu passed away of January 17, 2010. The West Bengal state committee of the CPI (M) initiated a ten-day long fund raising campaign for the centre from January 17, 2011, the first anniversary of Comrade Basu’s demise. The funds raised for the centre should be sent to the following address through cheques or demand drafts in the name of the “Jyoti Basu Centre for Social Studies and Research”:
